How does membership work?

Active membership includes unlimited participation in all classes including Warrior Fit and Neuro Fit that the member qualifies to attend.

Is there an initiation fee? Can I pause any time?

No, there is no initiation fee. You are welcome to pause when you like. We understand - life happens.

What age can my child join?

The age limit of 3+ is a loose guideline. We are happy to test out any age child to see if they are ready.

Can I drop my kids off?

It depends. At the beginning of their training, some kids feel more supported with parents present, other kids feel too much pressure when parents are present. So it really depends on your child. Most kids can be dropped off once they've acclimated to classes.

Can I or my child come to more than one class a day?

Yes, they can attend more than one class (eligibility required). However, please don't leave your child at the dojang during classes that they are not attending.

Are there scholarships?

Yes, there are scholarships available. We also pair students with anonymous donors. Reach out to us to apply.

MEMBERSHIP

I (or my child) has physical challenges and/or neurodivergence, can I participate?

Yes! All of Hapkido is adaptable to strengths and weaknesses. Our instructors have a lot of experience with modifying environment and curriculum to individual needs.

Is there sparring?

We do not do competitive sparring or hit & kick each other for points as sport.

We do teach and practice strikes for self-defense purposes. Our version of live training is a multi-attacker practice adjusted according to the individual's comfort and skill (randori). This is controlled pressure testing of the student's ability to react under stress with learned techniques.

What is Hapkido?

Hapkido is a Korean martial art focused on close quarter combat combining "soft" and "hard" techniques. Emphasis is placed on balance, momentum and joint manipulation over force. Classes emphasize partner-based training that instills situational awareness, efficient joint locks, throws, and weapon defenses. More about Hapkido.

Are you SafeSport certified?

Yes, all main instructors (and many adult volunteers) are certified by the U.S. Center for SafeSport to ensure a safe environment for all participants.

Do I pay for belt promotions?

No, you do not pay for belt promotions (with the exception of a fee for a registry once you become a Black Belt). We believe that finances should neither delay nor accelerate belt promotions. Instead belt promotions are based on readiness (knowledge of curriculum, attitude, maturity, etc.). Your monthly membership includes all belt promotions up to black/brown.

Can I take class with my kids?

Yes, we have several all ages classes (adult may also become helpers in kids classes) We have many parents who take classes with their kids and train as a family.

Will these classes help my children with discipline and/or confidence?

It has been our experience for the last 15 years that the structure of regular martial arts training indeed helps with discipline, confidence, and teamwork while promoting physical fitness. Our programs emphasize leadership, motivation, and respect.

TRAINING

Is training in Hapkido dangerous?

Like all physical activity including sports (football, soccer, etc.), horse-back riding, dance, and even yoga, there's always the chance of injury. It is a top priority for us to create a safe environment and have relatively few injuries outdie your regular bumps and bruises.
